\n On December 15, Bernard Workman, a former photographer for the Swindon Evening Advertiser, will mark his 90th birthday.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Workman, originally from Worcester, was conscripted into National Service in 1956 and was pleasantly surprised to secure a position at the Photo Unit at RAF Seletar in Singapore.\n<\/p>\n
\n After returning to the UK, he married his fianc\u00e9e Pat in 1958, and they subsequently had three sons, Nick, Tim and Simon and set up home in Kidderminster.\n<\/p>\n
\n A decade after tying the knot, the pair moved to Royal Wootton Bassett, where Mr Workman joined the Swindon Evening Advertiser.\n<\/p>\n
\n During his time at the Advertiser, he captured numerous key events, including royal visits.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Workman was also heavily involved in the local community, serving as the inaugural president of the Lions Club, and was well known as Father Christmas on their annual fundraising float around the town.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n After retiring in 1993 at age of 58, he continued to give his time, volunteering at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway, Avebury Manor, and the STEAM Museum, among others.\n<\/p>\n
\n Later he and Pat jointly volunteered to assist World War 2 educational re-enactments, for parties of visiting school children, at the STEAM railway museum.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
