\n Treatments are set to be faster than the national target of 18 weeks.\n<\/p>\n
\n Less than 75 per cent of ophthalmology patients in Dorset are currently treated within this time.\n<\/p>\n
\n Samantha Christiansen, the hospital manager, said: “By offering timely, high-quality ophthalmic care in a dedicated local facility, SpaMedica Dorchester will help to reduce elective backlogs and enable more patients to receive treatment close to home, in line with national healthcare priorities.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Working in close partnership with the NHS, we\u2019re aiming to make treatment for common eye conditions more accessible for our community.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Approximately 110,200 of Dorset\u2019s population are over 65, with up to 30 per cent of this age group potentially requiring cataract surgery.\n<\/p>\n
\n Thousands of people are expected to benefit from the new facility.\n<\/p>\n
\n SpaMedica is also offering a free door-to-door transport service with no mileage restrictions for patients who need assistance getting to and from their appointments.\n<\/p>\n
