Residents have complained about noise from a water pumping system associated with a SUDs pond on a new housing development being constructed on the outskirts of Marske<\/a>. Local councillor Dr Tristan Learoyd said the noise was akin to a \u201cfax machine\u201d.<\/p>\n Cllr Learoyd also said the pond, or basin, created for drainage purposes at the Miller Homes\/Taylor Wimpey site, just south of Marske, off Longbeck Road, was unsightly and likened it to a \u201cswamp\u201d. Referring to the noise being emitted, Ian Collings, who lives on nearby Delamere Drive, said: \u201c[It is] unbearable. It\u2019s on and off all night, sometimes lasting for minutes, and is keeping us awake and causing a lack of sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n In a response a representative on behalf of Miller Homes\/Taylor Wimpey said the SUDs was \u201coperating as we would expect\u201d and such features often appeared \u201cunsightly\u201d before landscaping was established. Cllr Learoyd has been a long-standing critic of the new development, which will contain more than 800 new homes and is bordered by the A174\/A1085 roads, while protests were also previously held in the local community over alleged environmental destruction<\/a> amid fears it will also overwhelm the existing conurbation.<\/p>\n In an e-mail exchange raising the complaint, shared by the councillor, he wrote: \u201cThere is a defective pumping system which is making a loud fax machine-like noise whenever there is water in the swamp. Please can this be addressed as soon as possible.<\/p>\n “The swamp looks terrible, it is depreciating your development south of Marske and creates an unsightly vista upon entering Marske-by-the-Sea at the railway line.\u201d<\/p>\n A response from the PA to Miller Homes\u2019 regional director, issued on behalf of both housebuilders involved in the scheme, said: \u201cWe understand the importance of addressing issues that affect both existing and new residents.<\/p>\n \u201cWe note your points regarding the SUDs basin at the entrance of the site. This is operating as we would expect during the construction phase of the development, however…these features often appear unsightly before landscaping is established.<\/p>\n “The landscaping in the periphery is being monitored and will be implemented in accordance with the landscape design for the site, as and when the weather<\/a> permits.
