Gary Antuanne Russell says he doesn\u2019t think Lamont Roach is serious about wanting to fight him for his WBA 140-lb title. Roach said this week that Antuanne is one of the champions he\u2019d be interested in fighting \u201cafter\u201d he defeats WBC interim light welterweight champion Isaac \u2018Pitbull\u2019 Cruz tonight.<\/p>\n

The Shakur Detour<\/p>\n

Russell (18-1, 17 KOs) isn\u2019t buying what Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is saying, noting that he\u2019s talked about immediately returning to the 135-lb division because he has \u201cUnfinished business\u201d and wants to challenge WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson for his title.<\/p>\n

In an interview with MillCity Boxing, Roach said that he\u2019d seen Antuanne Russell get \u201crag-dolled\u201d during an amateur tournament they were in years ago. He says he fought the same guy who beat Russell in the tourney, and he defeated him.<\/p>\n

Antuanne denies this ever happened, though he admits to losing in a tourney, but it wasn\u2019t a fight in which he was hurt.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a bluff. He\u2019s got himself a tough fighter. You have never once made a phone call for sparring. Why is that?\u201d said Gary Antuanne Russell to Fight Hub TV<\/a> about Lamont Roach. \u201cIf you beat this guy tomorrow, and I hope you do, it\u2019s a double whammy. We\u2019ll bring it back home to the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roach mentioned Antunne Russell\u2019s name far down in the list of fighters that he wants to face. He wasn\u2019t one of the top guys that he wants to fight next if he\u2019s victorious tonight against \u2018Pitbull\u2019 Cruz in their headliner in San Antonio. Roach mentioned these fighters for his hit list:<\/p>\n

Russell Wants Undisputed<\/p>\n

\u201cI would want him to exercise his rights. I would gladly take him up. After he made that statement, he said, \u2018I\u2019m going to go back down to 135.\u2019 So, which one is it?\u201d said Antuanne Russell about Roach saying he wants to return to the lightweight division after he fights Cruz to challenge Shakur Stevenson for his WBC title.<\/p>\n
