Wigan Warriors have made their stance clear on Catalans Dragons’ Super League future.\"WiganWigan Warriors have thrown their support behind Catalans Dragons.<\/p>\n

Wigan Warriors chairman Chris Brookes has voiced strong support for Catalans Dragons amid ongoing debate surrounding the French club\u2019s future in Super League.<\/p>\n

The Dragons\u2019 position in the top-tier competition has come under scrutiny in recent months, with Nigel Wood leading a strategic review aimed at reshaping the sport\u2019s future, which could also include a 14-team competition by 2027.<\/p>\n

In a show of unity, Wigan and Catalans have confirmed that they will take a Super League fixture to Paris next year. The match will be held at Stade Jean Bouin on Saturday, June 6, 2026. It will commemorate two major milestones: 20 years of Catalans in Super League and 30 years since the competition\u2019s launch, which began when Paris Saint-Germain hosted Sheffield Eagles at Stade Charl\u00e9ty in 1996.<\/p>\n

Wigan chairman Professor Brookes reaffirmed the club\u2019s backing of Catalans and the value they bring to the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis game shows how much we support Catalans being within the Super League,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

“We see this team as absolutely critical to the future of our sport and we’re 100 percent behind the French team and what they bring and the brand of rugby league they play. Our fans love going there.<\/p>\n

“We see what this team does is absolutely pivotal to the future of the game and an essential part of it looking forward.”<\/p>\n

A sell-out crowd is the target for the Paris clash, with the two clubs have also staged a match in Barcelona back in 2019, which attracted a record crowd of 31,555 at Nou Camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good initiative,\u201d Wigan head coach Matt Peet said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting, and it\u2019ll be a great occasion. It shows our support of French rugby league and a healthy relationship between the two clubs, from top to bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n
