{"id":305202,"date":"2025-12-08T15:11:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T15:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/305202\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T15:11:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T15:11:10","slug":"healthcare-services-at-hmp-peterborough-improving-cqc-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/305202\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthcare services at HMP Peterborough improving, CQC says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">HMP Peterborough is a <a href=\"https:\/\/prisonjobs.blog.gov.uk\/your-a-d-guide-on-prison-categories\/\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Category B prison, external<\/a> run by Sodexo and is the only prison in England that holds both men and women, although they are kept separate. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It currently holds about 360 women and 944 men.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At the latest inspection, CQC inspectors looked at how safe, effective, and well-led the healthcare service was. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They found clear improvements in how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/location\/RP1Z2\/reports\/AP18741\/overall\/well-led\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">risks and problems were identified and managed., external<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also found checks for prisoners detoxing from drugs and alcohol, now followed national guidance, and funding for additional mental health staff had been approved. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In addition, plans were in place to expand the pharmacy across other sites, offering benefits such as shared staff resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The watchdog also said healthcare and prison staff work well together, and healthcare staff had responded proactively to a recent rise in overdose emergencies at the prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They trained 336 prison staff to use Naloxone, a medicine that reverses opioid overdoses, and made sure it was available on every wing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also noted that an improved referral and triage system allowed more effective oversight of patients awaiting a mental health assessment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Patient records now clearly showed when a medicine was given, and follow-ups for missed medicines had improved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">HMP Peterborough and the Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust were contacted for a comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HMP Peterborough is a Category B prison, external run by Sodexo and is the only prison in England&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":305203,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43],"tags":[102,2960,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-305202","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-healthcare","8":"tag-health","9":"tag-healthcare","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/305202","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=305202"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/305202\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/305203"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=305202"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=305202"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=305202"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
