{"id":306321,"date":"2025-12-09T04:43:37","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T04:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/306321\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T04:43:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T04:43:37","slug":"future-nurses-from-wrexham-university-shine-at-rcn-wales-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/306321\/","title":{"rendered":"Future nurses from Wrexham University shine at RCN Wales Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/RCN-Nurses.jpg\" alt=\"Wrexham.com for people living in or visiting the Wrexham area\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Two nursing students at Wrexham University have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to nursing and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Alwen Sayer, Student Nurse (Adult), was named Nursing Student Award Winner, while Abbie Sanders, Student Nurse (Child), achieved Runner-Up in the same category at this year\u2019s Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Wales Nurse of the Year Awards.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t           &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t         &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Alwen and Abbie, who studied at the university\u2019s St Asaph campus, were praised at the recent awards ceremony in Cardiff for their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to evidence-based practice throughout their studies and clinical placements.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Flanagan, Principal of Coleg Llandrillo at Gr\u0175p Llandrillo Menai said: \u201cAlwen is a shining example of how the North Wales Tertiary Alliance is transforming education in our region.<\/p>\n<p>Through this collaborative approach, Alwen successfully completed the Certificate of Higher Education in Healthcare Practice at the college, creating a clear and accessible progression pathway into higher education.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Alliance is all about opening doors, increasing participation, and ensuring learners like Alwen can access the skills and opportunities they need to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-282031\" class=\"img-responsive wp-image-282031  size-full img-responsive \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/unnamed-75.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-282031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left to right: Helen Whyley: Executive Director RCN Wales, Lisa Llewellyn: Executive Director of Nursing, Health Professions and Quality at HEIW, Abbie Sanders, Jason Mohammad: Master of Ceremony<\/p>\n<p>Alison Lester-Owen, Principal Lecturer and Professional Lead in Nursing at Wrexham University said: \u201cThe whole Pre-Registration nursing team are incredibly proud of Alwen and Abbie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir success reflects not only their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to nursing, but also the high standards of nurse education at Wrexham University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese awards showcase the impact nurses have every day, caring for the people of Wales and beyond. It\u2019s truly inspiring to see our students recognised at this level, putting Wrexham University at the forefront of nurse education delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul Davies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Wrexham University, said: \u201cWe are immensely proud of Alwen and Abbie for their outstanding success at the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards.
