David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) has signed on to star opposite Ella Balinska (\u201cResident Evil\u201d) in Kill Screen, Deadline<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Announced earlier this year under the title The Horror Game<\/a>,\u00a0the meta horror thriller is directed by\u00a0Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) and written by Gus Krieger (The Killing Room).<\/p>\n

In the film, desperate to find her missing sister, a young woman (Balinska) and her three friends are drawn into a mysterious virtual reality horror game. Each level forces them to survive an entirely different horror subgenre \u2014 from slashers to supernatural, zombies to psychological.<\/p>\n

When they learn that dying in the game means dying in real life, the friends must outthink and outfight the game\u2019s sadistic creator (Dastmalchian) before their luck runs out.<\/p>\n

Currently in pre-production, Kill Screen is produced by Tyler Condon of CinemaWays and Matthew Shreder (The Little Hours) of Concourse Media.<\/p>\n

\u201cKill Screen is built for a generation raised on horror and interactive storytelling,\u201d said Condon. \u201cIt\u2019s terrifying, smart, and wildly entertaining \u2013 a movie that celebrates the genre while reinventing it. Greg\u2019s potent vision and Gus\u2019s script deliver a cinematic world that fans will want to explore again and again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGenre-savvy, high-concept horror is proving to be dynamic in the current marketplace,\u201d added Shreder. \u201cKill Screen taps directly into that demand with a concept that pays homage to every horror sub-genre ever imagined \u2013 while offering something completely new.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a busy year for Dastmalchian, with notable roles in \u201cDexter: Resurrection,\u201d \u201cMurderbot,\u201d Rosario<\/a>, and \u201cThe Creep Tapes<\/a>.\u201d He also has Dust Bunny<\/a> in theaters this weekend and The Boulet Brothers\u2019 Holiday of Horrors<\/a> on Shudder next Tuesday.<\/p>\n
