Warrington Wolves signing Liam Byrne has spoken about the \u201cbig change\u201d in his life and how it\u2019s fit in well with his switch to the Wire.<\/p>\n

Ireland international Byrne has signed a two-year deal with Warrington<\/a>, adding to the Wolves\u2019 pack alongside the likes of Toafofoa Sipley, James Bentley and Kelepi Tanginoa.<\/p>\n

Speaking to club media<\/a> about the excitement of the move now that he\u2019s in training, Byrne revealed that he and his partner are expecting a baby, with the switch to Warrington coming at a \u201cnice time\u201d.<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cThere was a lot of change going on in my life at the minute, me and my partner expecting a baby. I think it\u2019s come at a nice time, everything\u2019s changing, and yeah, it definitely signifies a big change.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what it\u2019s like in camp, he added:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a nice change, good to see fresh faces and the lads have welcomed me in. They\u2019re a top bunch of lads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liam Byrne hoping to play more minutes at Warrington Wolves<\/p>\n

The move to Warrington signifies a switch to his boyhood club, something that Byrne explained as he spoke on how the move happened and what it was like watching the Wolves as a kid.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old said: \u201cI grew up watching Warrington so much, I think they were my first club that I really liked. My first game I ever went to see was a Warrington game, funnily enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWarrington came in early last year and I knew it was a club I wanted to play for, so I couldn\u2019t wait to sign the contract.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his first experience watching the club, he said: \u201cI remember coming up, as you do, you come up through the steps. I remember looking at my dad, like, wow, seeing a game for the first time, it\u2019s pretty big.\u201d<\/p>\n

Byrne made 29 appearances for Wigan in 2025 but he\u2019s excited for more playing time at Warrington, revealing his conversations with Sam Burgess as well as how big an influence the former NRL star was in his signing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019ve got a lot more to give,\u201d Byrne stated, adding: \u201cI spoke to Sam a little bit about hopefully getting some more minutes, and on both sides of the ball, attack and D, I think I\u2019ve got a lot more to improve on, and I hope to do that in my time here.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure most of the people who have signed here have said that was a massive influence, and I grew up watching players like Sam so he\u2019s a massive influence, and I\u2019m just really excited to work on him.\u201d<\/p>\n

With such a young crop of players coming through at Warrington, Byrne\u2019s keen to let his own experience help influence the young Wires.<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cWhen I was coming through at Wigan, 18, 19, I was like, most of the lads here are coming through now, and I hope I can rub off any experience to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a great bunch of lads here, especially the younger lads that are coming through. I think Warrington have got a great academy system, and they\u2019ve got some real talent when they\u2019re training, so it\u2019s exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n
