Android\u2019s Recents screen has let you save and share images from your apps, as well as copy the URL from a Chrome tab.
\nWith Android 16 QPR2, Google\u2019s moving the Chrome URL share button to a more convenient location.
\nAt the same time, though, Google\u2019s dropping several of the UI\u2019s options for working with images.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s worse than Google removing a genuinely useful feature<\/a> from Android? Well, a few things, certainly, but high on that list we\u2019d have to put \u201cnot even realizing the tool existed until it\u2019s already being removed.\u201d And sadly, that may be the case for a lot of you with this neat trick in Android\u2019s Recents screen.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t want to miss the best from Android Authority?<\/p>\n

For the past few years, you\u2019ve been able to share app content directly from the Recents screen \u2014 if you\u2019ve only been using it to switch between apps, you\u2019ve been missing out. With Chrome, you could easily tap that link icon up top to copy or share the URL of the page you\u2019re on. But maybe the most powerful tool here has been for images, letting you long-press on pictures in apps to quickly open them with Lens, copy to the clipboard, share them, or just save a copy. Compared to screenshotting and cropping, that was pretty handy \u2014 if you knew about it!<\/p>\n

But with QPR2, that\u2019s all changing. For Chrome link sharing, we actually get a bit of an improvement \u2014 at least, if you\u2019re big on one-handed operation. Rather than perched all the way up at the top of your display, the Recents screen\u2019s link sharing icon for Chrome has moved down to the bottom, for easy access:<\/p>\n

That, on its own, would be great. But at the same time, Google has also removed much of the old functionality from the Recents screen\u2019s approach to handling images.<\/p>\n

Instead of all those useful options we had before, now all you can do is share or copy. Sure, you can pull up Circle to Search instead of Lens, but abandoning the option to save the file locally is a bit of a bummer.<\/p>\n
