(ABC News: Rachael Merritt)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Powell told parliament the plan was the most significant update to crocodile management in seven years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It will continue the crocodile safety campaign. It will work with traditional owners, and it will ensure conservation of this iconic space for future generations,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a sensible plan that strikes the right balance between safety and conservation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The plan will be reviewed every five years to ensure it reflects the needs of the community.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition hopes plan &#8216;led by science&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Shadow environment minister Leanne Linard was critical of government over the time it took to finalise the plan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-06-28\/crocodile-sanctuary-built-by-jesse-crampton-far-north-queensland\/105445234\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Even crocodiles need &#8216;real estate&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Removals of problem crocs from the wild have been on an upward trend since 2020 and hit a record high last year, but one man has an interesting solution to the problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The government has now had that draft plan for 12 months, and I note the minister has only today tabled the new plan,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I truly hope it is still led by science.
