And thanks to this unique discovery, astronomers can better understand the earliest moments of the universe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/NASA-s-Hubble-Space-Telescope-captures-an-impressive-photo-of-comet-3I-ATLAS.1178575.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">James Webb Space Telescope<\/a> continues to revolutionize the observation and understanding of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/The-Subaru-Telescope-has-discovered-a-new-exoplanet-and-a-new-brown-dwarf-with-its-new-program.1181298.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the universe<\/a>, thanks to its many instruments.\u00a0And while it has already allowed us to see unique structures in space, it recently discovered the oldest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/For-the-first-time-astronomers-observed-the-first-moments-of-a-supernova-shock-wave.1162549.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">supernova<\/a> ever observed.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">In reality, this discovery is linked to a series of events. In March 2025, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Space_Variable_Objects_Monitor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SVOM satellite<\/a> detected a powerful gamma-ray burst in space, and an hour and a half later, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neil_Gehrels_Swift_Observatory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory<\/a> detected this burst, allowing astronomers to identify and locate this event.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Subsequently, the Nordic Optical Telescope, located in the Canary Islands, also detected a faint light coming from this gamma-ray burst. And this, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/Astronomers-capture-first-ever-close-up-of-a-dying-star-outside-our-galaxy-and-find-it-shrouded-in-mysterious-hot-dust.1159379.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Very Large Telescope<\/a> could estimate the date of this supernova, which occurred 13 billion years ago.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Finally, the James Webb Space Telescope used its Near-Infrared Camera to observe this supernova, revealing unique details. Indeed, thanks to this device, astronomers were able to see that the supernova named <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/asset\/webb\/grb-250314a-pull-out-compass-nircam-image\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">GRB 250314A<\/a> was similar to those occurring today in an older universe.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GRB-250314A.jpg\" title=\"An image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope showing the remnants of GRB 250314A. And according to Emeric Le Floc&#8217;h at CEA Paris-Saclay in France:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">&#8220;Webb&#8217;s observations indicate that this distant galaxy is similar to other galaxies that existed at the same time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">This is also a record for the James Webb Space Telescope, because previously, the oldest supernova was discovered in a universe that was 1.8 billion years old.
