\n\tJust ahead of Jane Austin\u2019s 250th birthday on Dec, 16, the first look photos from \u201cThe Other Bennet Sister<\/a>\u201d \u2014\u00a0about the oft-overlooked middle sister in \u201cPride and Prejudice<\/a>\u201d \u2014\u00a0have been unveiled. <\/p>\n

\n\tResplendent in Regency era fashions are Ella Bruccoleri (\u201cCall the Midwife,\u201d \u201cBridgerton\u201d), who leads the cast as Mary Bennet, alongside Richard E. Grant<\/a> (\u201cWithnail & I,\u201d \u201cCan You Ever Forgive Me?\u201d) and Ruth Jones<\/a> (\u201cGavin & Stacey,\u201d \u201cStella\u201d) as Mr and Mrs Bennet. Meanwhile, Indira Varma (\u201cObi-Wan Kenobi,\u201d \u201cThe Night Manager\u201d) and Richard Coyle (\u201cHeads of State,\u201d \u201cThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina\u201d) are playing Mr and Mrs Gardiner, and Laurie Davidson (\u201cA Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story,\u201d \u201cThe Girlfriend\u201d) and D\u00f3nal Finn (\u201cThe Wheel of Time,\u201d \u201cSAS Rogue Heroes\u201d) are potential suitors Mr. Ryder and Mr. Hayward, respectively.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on Janice Hadlow\u2019s novel of the same name, \u201cThe Other Bennet Sister\u201d is being produced by Bad Wolf (\u201cHis Dark Materials,\u201d \u201cIndustry\u201d). The series will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2026, in a co-production with BritBox, which will also premiere the series in 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\tSarah Quintrell (\u201cThe Power,\u201d \u201cEllen\u201d) wrote nine of the ten half-hour episodes, with Maddie Dai (\u201cWe Were Dangerous\u201d) writing one. The series, which was filmed in Wales, is directed by Jennifer Sheridan (\u201cExtraordinary\u201d) and Asim Abbasi (\u201cCake\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Other Bennet Sister\u201d begins at Longbourn, the Bennet family home, where Mr. and Mrs. Bennet preside over a lively household of five unmarried daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. As society\u2019s pressures mount, the Bennet sisters navigate the glittering yet precarious world of Regency England, where marriage is both aspiration and necessity.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile her sisters pursue romance and social triumph, Mary embarks on a very different path. Leaving Longbourn behind, she travels to London to live with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, in their elegant home on Gracechurch Street. There, Mary begins a journey of self-discovery, stepping out of the shadows and into her own story.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMary\u2019s story is about coming of age when you\u2019re the odd one out \u2014 how do you find your place in the world? As a young girl growing up in Croydon my world could not have been more different to Jane Austen\u2019s \u2014 but there is a universality in her work that reaches across generations and class boundaries, and we cannot wait to bring the Bennet family to a new audience. \u2018The Other Bennet Sister\u2019 is true to the spirit of \u2018Pride and Prejudice\u2019 but I hope it will also surprise and delight fans both old and new.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Other Bennet Sister\u201d was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. The executive producers are Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, Jess O\u2019Riordan, Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox, Quintrell, and Hadlow. The series has been developed and overseen by Bad Wolf\u2019s managing director, Dan McCulloch and chief creative officer, Ryan Rasmussen.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and in the U.S. and Canada it will be available on BritBox. Bad Wolf is supported by the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.
