\n Last month, it was confirmed that the former Warrington South MP had been appointed as chairman of Warrington and Halton Hospitals.\n<\/p>\n
\n From January, Mr Carter will join the organisation as associate non-execute director and chair designate.\n<\/p>\n
\n And from April, which is also when WHH will become one organisation with Bridgewater Community Healthcare, he will take up the role of chairman, replacing Professor Steve McGuirk whose final term comes to an end in March next year after having served the trust for more than a decade.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n The Warrington Guardian asked Warrington Hospital what Mr Carter\u2019s new salary will be.\n<\/p>\n
\n A spokesperson for the trust said there are different benchmarking tools used to determine chair renumeration \u2013 NHS England benchmarking and NHS providers benchmarking.\n<\/p>\n
\n Depending which benchmarking tools are used, the median salary for the chairman role at similar sized trusts is between \u00a349,500 and \u00a350,700.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, a spokesperson for WHH said that Mr Carter\u2019s salary will be below the median regardless of which benchmarking tool is used. It will also save the trust\u2019s money, as only one chair will be required following Warrington Hospital and Bridgewater joining.\n<\/p>\n
\n They said: \u201cIt will also represent an overall saving as Mr Carter will replace both Professor Steve McGuirk (WHH chair) and Martyn Taylor (Bridgewater chair), whose terms both come to an end on March 31.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Carter served as MP for the Warrington South constituency from 2019 to 2024 where he failed in his long-term campaign to get the Government to build a new hospital in the town.\n<\/p>\n
\n His political career also saw him serve as parliamentary private secretary in the Department of Work and Pensions and in the Department for Transport, as well as being a member of the Justice Select Committee.\n<\/p>\n
\n Speaking of his appointment last month, Mr Carter said he will continue to push for fit for purpose hospitals and an urgent treatment centre in Warrington.\n<\/p>\n
\n He said: \u00a0\u201cI am enormously grateful for everything the NHS delivers across Warrington, Halton and beyond, and I feel deeply honoured to have the opportunity to work alongside the thousands of dedicated staff and partner organisations.\n<\/p>\n
