Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>Things have quickly turned sour for the 44-year-old at his former club, though, with players reportedly unhappy at his intense training methods.<\/p>\n<p>Two wins in eight matches mean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/12\/11\/confirmation-arrives-on-xabi-alonso-sack-verdict-after-real-madrid-lose-against-man-city\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alonso is on the brink of the sack<\/a>, and with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool<\/a> also struggling under Arne Slot, a theory has been developing that the former Reds midfielder is being lined up to replace the Dutchman. According to journalist Juliens Laurens, however, that is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>Xabi Alonso to Liverpool could take at least two years<\/p>\n<p>Given his history as a fan-favourite with Liverpool, Alonso taking over at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/anfield-stadium-information\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anfield<\/a> in 2024 would have made total sense.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, it was always clear that he wanted to manage Real Madrid at some point, too. If both Slot and Alonso are relieved of their duties it would feel like an obvious next move.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VWVehE-cE6A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ESPN FC<\/a>, however, Laurens claims Liverpool are still fully behind Slot, and while he claims that Alonso will almost certainly manage the Reds at some stage, it could be years down the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot now, I don\u2019t think so,\u201d he said when asked if Liverpool will replace Slot with the World Cup winner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they will give Slot more time to turn things around, once the Mo Salah issue has been resolved, whatever that is, I think they still believe that Slot can turn things around. Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe in two years\u2019 time,\u201d he added. \u201cI still think Xabi Alonso will be a Liverpool head coach\/manager but I don\u2019t think right now if he gets sacked they will move straight in for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t rule Alonso out of earlier move<\/p>\n<p>Despite Laurens\u2019 dismissal, there does feel to be a very real possibility that Alonso could end up at Liverpool far sooner than anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes were clearly keen on the former Spain international to replace Jurgen Klopp, and it is unlikely that a bad spell at Real would change that.<\/p>\n<p>If he does suddenly become available, there is little question that the pressure on Slot would be ramped up a notch.<\/p>\n<p>Should the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/manager\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool head coach<\/a> get back to winning ways with his team, then that will become redundant.
