{"id":312175,"date":"2025-12-12T14:18:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T14:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/312175\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T14:18:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T14:18:07","slug":"sir-james-anderson-appointed-county-championship-captain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/312175\/","title":{"rendered":"Sir James Anderson appointed County Championship captain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\n            &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Sir James Anderson appointed County Championship captain<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nLancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that Sir James Anderson has been appointed as the Club\u2019s full-time County Championship captain ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson, who fulfilled the role on an interim basis during the 2025 campaign, will now take on the red-ball captaincy permanently after signing a new one-year contract with the Red Rose in November.<\/p>\n<p>The 43-year-old made his Lancashire debut in 2002 and has spent his entire domestic playing career with the Red Rose, retiring from international cricket last year as England\u2019s all-time leading wicket taker.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson passed 300 career appearances in First-Class cricket last summer and will head into the 2026 campaign looking to add to his tally of 1,143 wickets in the format.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Bohannon will continue as vice-captain following his appointment to the role in 2024. Keaton Jennings will also remain as captain for the Vitality Blast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/anderson-championships-captain2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Sir James Anderson said: \u201cCaptaining Lancashire for the first time last season was a huge privilege, and I\u2019m honoured to take on the role full-time heading into the new season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a fantastic group of players, a great blend of youth and experience, and I\u2019m excited about what we can achieve together with promotion back to Division One our number one priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful for the support from Crofty, and from my teammates, and I\u2019m looking forward to leading the side into the new County Championship season in April.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Men\u2019s Head Coach Steven Croft added: \u201cJimmy is an outstanding leader whose influence on the squad is immense.
