Way back in 2019, you may recall, director\u00a0Andy Muschietti\u00a0had been floating the idea of a massive, extended \u201csupercut\u201d of both IT movies, which would include unseen deleted scenes from both along with (potentially) brand new scenes that haven\u2019t even been filmed yet. \u201cIt would probably be around six hours and a half,\u201d Muschietti had been saying at the time.<\/p>\n

Of course, that extended supercut of IT and IT: Chapter Two never ended up happening. We ended up getting something even better, with the first season of 1962-set prequel series \u201cIT: Welcome to Derry\u201d wrapping up on HBO Max this coming Sunday night (December 14).<\/p>\n

Does Muschietti plan on revisiting the idea of the IT supercut movie? In an Ask-Me-Anything chat on Reddit<\/a> this week, he reveals that it remains a dream project after all these years.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill a big dream of mine,\u201d Andy Muschietti told fans during the AMA chat. \u201cSince we\u2019ve been involved heavily in this show we hadn\u2019t had time to execute it. Crossing fingers.\u201d<\/p>\n

What would be included in this extended cut, you might be wondering?<\/p>\n

Muschietti told Consequence of Sound<\/a> back in 2019,\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s a scene that we shot that\u2019s in the 1600s. I decided not to put it in the film because it was a little confusing. You know, the problem is that people sometimes want to know a little more, but if you give them too much, then they\u2019re disappointed. It\u2019s like a magic trick in a way.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that 2019 chat, Muschietti also touched upon a deleted scene referencing the celestial turtle known as Maturin, an ancient figure who appears in King\u2019s IT\u00a0novel as well as\u00a0The Dark Tower.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you see McAvoy confronting his fear in the flooded basement, and he kills the notion of guilt by killing himself as a kid, he jumps back in the water. He\u2019s lost, there is no way out, and suddenly, the eyes of Pennywise \u2014 Pennywise Bill, the kid \u2014 come out of the dark. But it\u2019s not Pennywise, it\u2019s the turtle that is swimming by him,\u201d he details. \u201cAnd he views the turtle and he\u2019s sort of fascinated, like, \u2018What is this thing?\u2019, and very soon after, the kids are swimming after it. So, McAvoy follows them toward the light, and he emerges back in the cavern.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muschietti added, \u201cIt\u2019s a beautiful scene, but I had to leave it out over pacing reasons.\u00a0It was very emotional, but it was not in the right moment, where things had to move faster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether or not the IT and IT: Chapter Two extended supercut ever happens, it\u2019s likely that we\u2019ll be seeing much more of Pennywise in the coming years. The first season of \u201cIT: Welcome to Derry\u201d is proving to be a hit<\/a> for HBO and HBO Max, and we expect the series will soon be renewed for a second season. The Muschiettis have plans for a three-season arc for the series.<\/p>\n
