It was only five months ago that Primo\u017e Rogli\u010d <\/a>was wearing ankle socks at the Tour de France<\/a> and allegedly telling the rest of the peloton that he didn\u2019t care<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In that same race, his much younger Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe<\/a> teammate Florian Lipowitz<\/a> outperformed him to secure the final spot on the podium, and a week after the race ended it was announced that Rogli\u010d\u2019s long-time rival Remco Evenepoel<\/a> would be joining Red Bull for the 2026 season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rogli\u010d\u2019s days as a Tour de France<\/a> contender appear to be over \u2013 and next season the only Grand Tour he is set to ride will be the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It has led to many assuming that Rogli\u010d, who turned 36 in October, is preparing for his final year in the peloton. But the Slovenian has insisted that despite his blas\u00e9 comments and his incredibly relaxed demeanour, he has no plans to retire in a year\u2019s time.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Red Bull\u2019s 2026 launch event in Mallorca, Rogli\u010d quipped that he was hoping that the team boss Ralph Denk would announce a new contract extension for him on stage, as he did with Lipowitz, Giulio Pellizzari, and Lorenzo Finn.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not mentioned before by Ralph with the extensions \u2013 I was maybe hoping a bit that he would but he didn\u2019t say my name,\u201d Rogli\u010d chuckled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to race at this moment for 10 more years. As long as I will feel that hunger, or as long as it will make me happy at the end \u2013 because I have to be happy and I have to enjoy it \u2013 I will continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you want it or not? It\u2019s somehow connected with the results that you are achieving, but it\u2019s not everything. We will see. I have to go day by day, and year by year.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Hunger] is the thing that probably all winners have inside them. It\u2019s hard to say that you are born with it, but somehow you grow up and you have it. When you\u2019re 10-years-old or whatever, competitiveness and drive are all the things you need [to succeed], and it\u2019s still inside me. You wake up and you want to do everything to be the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Red Bull rarely announce the length of a rider\u2019s contract, it is widely believed that Rogli\u010d\u2019s deal with the team will expire at the end of the 2026 season. Would he drop to a lower-ranked team in order to continue his career?<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to think about that,\u201d he said. \u201cI need the hunger and the will to still compete with the best ones to be the best. So in this case you shouldn\u2019t look down but up.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Lipowitz and Evenepoel preparing to lead Red Bull\u2019s two-pronged<\/a> attack at next year\u2019s Tour, there is no space for Rogli\u010d. Instead, he will head to the Vuelta to attempt to win a record-breaking fifth title.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can suggest that [he was surprised not be in the Tour squad],\u201d he said. \u201cIf I could choose one race to win, I would sign for the Tour de France. It\u2019s not a secret. But the reality is different.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe level that I was finishing [last year\u2019s Tour] was different. The first point to consider about myself is that you know how to find the way to be competitive, to compete for the victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m second in the GC of the Tour or winning the Vuelta, I know what I choose. I win the Vuelta. It\u2019s simple. It\u2019s easy to so say it, but to do it\u2026 even trying to win a stage in [February\u2019s Volta a] Valencia is hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

That all said, Rogli\u010d isn\u2019t ruling out the possibility of him making an appearance in either the Tour or the Giro d\u2019Italia<\/a> next season. \u201cIf I\u2019ve learned something over the years, it\u2019s that there are always some chances.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is you need to put something in the plan. You need to have some planning because there are a lot of people around and we cannot all be freelancers.<\/p>\n
