\n\tThe duo \u2014 made up of Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael \u2014 dethrones Taylor Swift<\/a> and her single \u201cThe Fate of Ophelia\u201d to take the top spot ahead of the Dec. 19 chart battle, when the U.K.\u2019s Official Christmas No. 1 Single will be crowned.<\/p>\n

\n\tFirst issued in 1984 and written by Michael, \u201cLast Christmas\u201d was beaten to the Christmas No. 1 spot at the time of release by Band Aid\u2019s \u201cDo They Know It\u2019s Christmas?\u201d It eventually took the coveted slot 39 years later in 2023, and repeated the victory in 2024.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith a number of physical releases for festive classics dropping, the race for the Christmas No. 1 spot next week looks to be competitive.<\/p>\n

\n\tRAYE<\/a>\u2019s \u201cWhere Is My Husband!\u201d closes at No. 2 for the third consecutive week and has yet to hit the top spot. Another contender could be Mariah Carey<\/a>\u2019s \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You,\u201d which ends this week at No. 3; since its release in 1995, the song has spent three weeks at No. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tBrenda Lee\u2019s classic \u201cRockin\u2019 Around the Christmas Tree\u201d closes the week at No. 4, while Kelly Clarkson\u2019s 2013 song \u201cUnderneath the Tree\u201d leaps four places to No. 5.<\/p>\n

\n\tOlivia Dean boasts three songs inside the top 10 with \u201cSo Easy (To Fall in Love)\u201d at No. 6, \u201cMan I Need\u201d at No. 7 and her Sam Fender collaboration \u201cRein Me In\u201d at No. 9.<\/p>\n

\n\tA number of festive hits are making moves throughout the top 40, with The Pogues\u2019 \u201cFairytale of New York\u201d (No. 8), Bobby Helms\u2019 \u201cJingle Bell Rock\u201d (No. 10) and Shakin\u2019 Stevens \u201cMerry Christmas Everyone\u201d (No. 12) seeing the biggest momentum heading into next week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe team behind the Together for Palestine benefit concert<\/a> held in London in September have released charity single<\/a> \u201cLullaby\u201d with the aim of hitting the top spot and raising funds for humanitarian aid in Gaza. The campaign has been led by Brian Eno, with contributions from a number of U.K. and Palestinian musicians.<\/p>\n
