Frankie Muniz is getting candid about returning to the small screen for the four-episode \u201cMalcolm in the Middle\u201d reboot \u201cLife\u2019s Still Unfair,\u201d<\/a> describing the experience as the first in his entire life that he was \u201chappy to call myself an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been like, \u2018Oh yeah, I act but I also do these other things too,\u2019\u201d the \u201cAgent Cody Banks\u201d star said in an interview with People<\/a>. \u201cIt was just really fun and a really cool experience, so I\u2019m hoping that everyone loves it for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muniz starred in the original 2000 sitcom as the titular boy-genius Malcolm Wilkerson alongside Bryan Cranston (Hal Wilkerson) and Jane Kaczmarek (Lois Wilkerson). The show ran for 151 episodes across seven seasons until 2006.<\/p>\n

While Muniz reflected fondly on the experience, he admitted he was unsure of what the dynamic would be on set 20 years later.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a kid,\u201d Muniz said. \u201cI was like 13 to 20 when I was on the show and I just kind of showed up and was excited to be there and said the words that were on the paper and it worked. As an adult, you tend to overthink things \u2026 and you put more pressure on yourself as well. So I didn\u2019t know what it was gonna be like \u2014 if it was going to be easy to be Malcolm, if it was gonna be awkward back with the cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quickly, though, Muniz\u2019s fears were dissuaded. \u201cNot to sound like clich\u00e9, but it was as if not a single day went by,\u201d he continued. \u201cAll of us \u2014 every single person \u2014 like instantly fell back into their characters with, I\u2019m talking the first table read.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cBig Fat Liar\u201d star added that filming for the upcoming reboot was \u201cprobably one of the best times I\u2019ve ever had on a set,\u201d largely because of the alleviated pressure that came with working on a project he knew fans would appreciate.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwenty years ago, you film the first season, no one\u2019s ever seen it, you don\u2019t know if they\u2019re gonna like it, you don\u2019t know how people are gonna react to it,\u201d Muniz said. \u201cAnd then to have your seven years of success with it and now 20 years later, I can go anywhere in the world and people know Malcolm, right? They know the show, they love the show. They tell me how much it affected their lives and how much it meant to their families, how it brought them closer together.\u201d<\/p>\n
