Police are still searching for a gunman after a shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island late last night.<\/p>\n
Two people were killed and nine others injured, seven of whom are listed as critical.\u00a0<\/p>\n
All or nearly all of the victims are students, according to the university’s president.<\/p>\n
The gunman escaped after shooting students in a classroom in the school’s engineering building, where outer doors had been unlocked and exams were taking place.<\/p>\n
Detectives are investigating why that location was targeted.<\/p>\n
Some students, according to reports in the US, sheltered under their desks for hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There is not believed to be a “specific, ongoing threat” from the suspect, the local mayor said, and police have not yet identified him.<\/p>\n
But he is described as male and possibly in his 30s. He was dressed in black and may have worn a mask, though officials aren’t certain.<\/p>\n
The university remains in lockdown, with students told to stay indoors.<\/p>\n
