A GP branch surgery will close in February when the lease on the premises expires. The South Grange Medical Centre, based on the Trunk Road at Eston<\/a>, applied for approval to close the Lagan Surgery it operates near to Kirkleatham<\/a> Street, Redcar<\/a>.<\/p>\n The premises were described as \u201climited\u201d and not fit for purpose <\/a>when a manager from the practice briefed local councillors on the plans at a meeting earlier this year. Patients can already use Coatham<\/a> Surgery, in Coatham Road, Redcar, a short walk away as part of an administrative collaboration between the two practices.<\/p>\n The aim is to \u201cenhance clinical quality and practice resilience, to run more efficiently and to continue to deliver high quality of care to patients\u201d, a report detailing the move said. It was also admitted that \u201ctime and money\u201d would be saved from the closure.<\/p>\n Both South Grange Medical Centre and Coatham Surgery have free on-site parking, including disabled parking bays, while Lagan Surgery does not offer patient parking on-site. South Grange Medical Centre has approximately 15,500 registered patients, including 2,170 who live in Redcar.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), which granted permission for the closure, said : “The ICB has approved an application by South Grange Medical Practice to close the Lagan Branch Surgery in Redcar from February 2026. Patients will be able to access appointments at South Grange Medical Practice and Coatham Surgery.
