{"id":315393,"date":"2025-12-14T10:12:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T10:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/315393\/"},"modified":"2025-12-14T10:12:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T10:12:08","slug":"wallabies-star-len-ikitau-surges-past-world-cup-winners-in-top-100-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/315393\/","title":{"rendered":"Wallabies star Len Ikitau surges past World Cup winners in Top 100 rise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Len Ikitau has moved up more places than anyone else so far on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/top-100-mens-rugby-players\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RugbyPass Top 100 <\/a>in 2025, with the Wallaby rising 66 spots into 29th \u2013 now ranked ahead of dual Rugby World Cup-winning centres <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/jesse-kriel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jesse Kriel<\/a> and Damian de Allende.<\/p>\n<p>Ikitau became a first-time recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/john-eales\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Eales<\/a> Medal at Rugby Australia\u2019s night of nights in October, although the midfielder wasn\u2019t there to collect the Wallabies Player of the Year honour, having already moved to Exeter.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old has joined Premiership heavyweights the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/exeter-chiefs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Exeter Chiefs<\/a> as part of a sabbatical with Rugby Australia. Ikitau has made four appearances for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/chiefs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chiefs<\/a> so far, including a recent start at inside centre against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/cheetahs-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetahs<\/a> in the Challenge Cup.<\/p>\n<p>In the Test arena, Ikitau formed a reliable centre pairing with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii. Those two started all three matches against the British &amp; Irish Lions, and combined during the famous comeback win over the Springboks in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>Suaalii is another big mover in the Top 100, shooting up 14 places. Australia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/angus-bell\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Angus Bell<\/a> is up 22 places, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/fraser-mcreight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fraser McReight<\/a> has improved by eight positions, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/rob-valetini\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Valetini<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/tom-wright\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Wright<\/a> have both dropped at least eight spots.<\/p>\n<p>Ikitau is the big winner from the Top 100 so far, gaining more ground than anyone else. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/new-zealand\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">All Blacks<\/a> scrum-half <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/cam-roigard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cam Roigard<\/a> is the second-biggest mover by rising 51 places, and France\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/thomas-ramos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Ramos<\/a> rounds out this top three after moving up 48 spots into 26th.<\/p>\n<p>Damian Willemse and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/caleb-clarke\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Caleb Clarke<\/a> have both improved by at least 40 spots, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/damian-mckenzie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Damian McKenzie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/santiago-chocobares\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Santiago Chocobares<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/jasper-wiese\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jasper Wiese<\/a> are up by at least 30. There are another 20 players who have risen by less than 20 places.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0been an awesome journey,\u201d Ikitau said after winning the John Eales Medal at the 2025 Rugby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/australia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a> Awards in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is\u00a0probably one\u00a0of the best years that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0enjoyed in the Wallabies jersey, in terms of the way\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0been playing. You know, the way that we want to play.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0just been exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>11 journalists had their say after the 2025 international season, with Ikitau ranked one spot ahead of Willemse and one place behind McKenzie.
