Lily Allen<\/a> brought out Dakota Johnson to play \u2018Madeline\u2019 during her Saturday Night Live<\/a> performance last night (December 13).<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u2019s musical guest slot saw Allen \u2013 who made waves stateside with her latest record \u2018West End Girl\u2019<\/a> and has sold out the biggest North American tour of her career<\/a> next year \u2013 perform one of the album\u2019s most talked about tracks with \u2018Madeline\u2019.<\/p>\n

Her split from the Stranger Things<\/a> star David Harbour<\/a> was a major source of inspiration for the songs on the record, and \u2018Madeline\u2019 sees her construct a fictional character who Allen implies had an affair with him.<\/p>\n

She was joined on the song, in which she sings: \u201cI can\u2019t trust anything that comes out of your mouth \/ I\u2019m not convinced that he didn\u2019t fuck you in our house\u201d \u2013 by Johnson, who performed the voice note out of sight of the audience before being revealed at the end of the track.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Following the album\u2019s release, a woman named Natalie Tippett came forward claiming to be the woman who was having an affair with Harbour<\/a>, telling the Mail on Sunday<\/a>: \u201cOf course I\u2019ve heard the song. But I have a family and things to protect. I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and I understand this is going on. It\u2019s a little bit scary for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite her claims, Allen later insisted in an interview with The Sunday Times<\/a>\u00a0that the song \u2018Madeline\u2019 is a fictional character who is a \u201cconstruct of others\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018West End Girl\u2019 was\u00a0given a four-star review from\u00a0NME<\/a>, who praised \u2018Madeline\u2019 as \u201ca dizzying cocktail of uncertainty, fury and empathy\u201d. It also landed at number 13 on\u00a0NME\u2018s 50 Best Albums of 2025<\/a>. \u201cOn this\u00a0raw nerve of a divorce album<\/a>, she sifts through the wreckage over suitably muted two-step, flamenco and\u00a0dancehall<\/a>\u00a0beats,\u201d we wrote of the record.<\/p>\n
