{"id":317215,"date":"2025-12-15T13:09:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T13:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/317215\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T13:09:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T13:09:06","slug":"doctors-vote-to-go-ahead-with-five-day-strike-in-england-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/317215\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors vote to go ahead with five-day strike in England this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But it did not include any promises on pay \u2013 Health Secretary Wes Streeting has maintained he will not negotiate on that after resident doctors pay has been increased by nearly 30% in the past three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The union argues that, despite the pay rises, resident doctors&#8217; pay is still a fifth lower than it was in 2008, once inflation is taken into account.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This will be the 14th strike in the long-running dispute which began in March 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Resident doctors, which represent nearly half the medical workforce, will walk out of both emergency and non-urgent care.
