Hairy Bikers star Si King had a heartbreaking realisation almost two years after the death of close friend Dave Myers<\/a>. The pair met in 1995 when they were both working on the set of The Gambling Man in 1995.<\/a><\/p>\n They struck up a close friendship before making their name as television chefs thanks to their programmes that combined their love of food and motorcycles. Tragedy struck however in 2022 when Dave was diagnosed with cancer.<\/p>\n He subsequently underwent chemotherapy. However in February 2024, Dave died aged 66. Last June thousands of riders travelled from London to his hometown of Barrow-in-Furnes as a tribute to Dave.<\/a><\/p>\n Now, speaking to The Times<\/a> magazine, Si admits he still misses his close friend. He said: \u201cWhen I was riding a bike the other day, I automatically looked behind me to see if Dave was there.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought, \u2018Where the bloody hell is he? Has he gone around that bend?\u2019 Then I realised, \u2018Oh no, of course he hasn\u2019t.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Si admits he finds grief \u201cvery odd\u201d and says he experienced a \u201chuge mix of emotions\u201d after losing Dave. He added: \u201cIt\u2019s anger, frustration, sadness, disappointment. They come when you least expect them.\u201d<\/p>\n Si, 59, describes the two as \u201cgreat friends\u201d and revealed he was \u201cso close\u201d to both his diagnosis and subsequent treatment. He believes the pair had a \u201cfruitful and fulfilling time together\u201d and prefers concentrating on highs of their friendship \u201crather than the loss\u201d.<\/p>\n The TV presenter has also faced his own health battles during his life. In 2014 he suffered a brain aneurysm that he says left him needing to \u201clie down after making a cup of tea\u201d.<\/p>\n Si admits he would find himself feeling \u201cexhausted\u201d after making a brew and would end up \u201csedentary\u201d for the rest of the day. He however decided he needed to \u201ccrack on\u201d despite acknowledging that he faced an \u201cuphill struggle\u201d during his recovery.<\/p>\n The star candidly admits that his gruelling filming schedule, which he says takes up 200 days a year, has had an impact on his family throughout his career. Si split from ex-wife Jane in 2016, after 27 years.<\/p>\n He says there is \u201cno blueprint\u201d for overnight success and admits children at school \u201ctook the mickey\u201d out of his sons when he became famous. He recalls one moment where his sons were taken aback after he jumped into a pool in Africa while completely naked.<\/p>\n And while he fondly reminisces about the Hairy Bikers<\/a>, Si also faced some \u201cscary\u201d moments with Dave.<\/p>\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_The-British-Book-Awards-Arrivals.jpg\")
