{"id":317547,"date":"2025-12-15T17:15:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T17:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/317547\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T17:15:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T17:15:08","slug":"successful-project-to-remove-invasive-rodents-from-the-calf-of-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/317547\/","title":{"rendered":"Successful project to remove invasive rodents from the Calf of Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/254009-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                                    Picture credit: Richard Cope<\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            Initiative involved 13-year project between MNH and Manx Wildlife Trust\n        <\/p>\n<p>A long running project to remove invasive rodents from the Calf of Man has enabled Manx Shearwaters &#8211; once declared extinct on the Island &#8211; to return.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative has involved a 13-year collaboration between Manx National Heritage and the Manx Wildlife Trust.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s transformed the ecological outlook for the nature reserve enabling the return of key seabird populations &#8211; particularly ground-nesting species vulnerable to predation from brown rats.<\/p>\n<p>The Calf now has up to 1,500 pairs of breeding Manx Shearwaters.
