{"id":318016,"date":"2025-12-15T23:23:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T23:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/318016\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T23:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T23:23:10","slug":"nvidia-buys-ai-software-provider-schedmd-to-expand-open-source-ai-push","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/318016\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia buys AI software provider SchedMD to expand open-source AI push"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Dec 15 (Reuters) &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/NVDA\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nvidia;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> said on Monday it acquired AI software firm SchedMD, as the chip designer doubles down on open-source technology \u200band steps up investments in the <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> ecosystem to fend off \u200crising competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The chip designer built its reputation on speedy chips, but it also offers a range \u200cof its own AI models, from physics simulations to self-driving vehicles, as open-source software that researchers and companies can use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Its proprietary CUDA software, a standard among most developers, is a major selling point for its chips, making software key to \u2060maintaining its dominance in the \u200cAI industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Nvidia shares were up 1.35% after the news and an earlier announcement of new open-source AI models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">SchedMD provides software \u200dthat helps schedule large computing jobs that can occupy a big share of a data center&#8217;s server capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Its technology, called Slurm, is open source, meaning developers and firms can \u200baccess it for free, while the company sells engineering and maintenance support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Financial terms \u200cof the deal were not disclosed.
