Hull KR have been overlooked for the esteemed Team of the Year accolade at the upcoming Sports Personality of the Year awards, marking a departure from rugby league’s recent triumphs.<\/p>\n

Last year, Wigan Warriors clinched the coveted title following their unprecedented quadruple victory, with Matt Peet’s squad securing the Super League Grand Final, League Leaders’ Shield, Challenge Cup and the World Club Challenge, outperforming contenders from various sports.<\/p>\n

Hopes were high that rugby league<\/a> might retain the award for a second year running, especially after Hull KR’s own historic treble. This included their first significant win in four decades when they overcame Warrington Wolves to claim the Challenge Cup.<\/p>\n

Willie Peters’ team also bagged the League Leaders’ Shield and Super League Grand Final. However, this year’s shortlist has excluded them, ensuring a fresh sport will take home the Team of the Year honour.<\/p>\n

The 2025 shortlist comprises three deserving teams: England’s Lionesses, following their Women’s Euros victory; the England women’s rugby union team, who triumphed in the Rugby World Cup on home turf; and Europe’s Ryder Cup golf team.<\/p>\n
