Coronation Street <\/a>and Emmerdale <\/a>have confirmed more of the drama that is set to unfold as the long-running shows collide in a historic TV crossover.<\/p>\n

With just a matter of weeks to go until the single episode ITV<\/a> has released a new breathtaking trailer for the iconic soap crossover, Corriedale, which is set to air on Monday, January 5.<\/p>\n

The producers, scriptwriters and production teams have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire, to herald the start of a new soap power hour schedule.<\/p>\n

The new atmospheric promo <\/a>reveals details of the catastrophic pile up and teases more characters who might be in jeopardy as the two worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale collide.<\/p>\n

The 30-second preview was revealed exclusively on Monday (December 15) during The Big Quiz, ITV\u2019s annual festive TV special pitting the cast members of Coronation Street and Emmerdale against each other in a battle of soap trivia, hosted by Stephen Mulhern.<\/p>\n

New characters confirmed as being amongst the residents of Weatherfield and Emmerdale caught up in the drama are Corrie\u2019s Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor and Shona Platt whilst Emmerdale\u2019s Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Charity Dingle, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden and Joe Tate are added to the previously announced David Platt, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, Aaron Dingle and Lisa Swain.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the multiple vehicle smash Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes control of the situation whilst a frantic Carla Connor (Alison King) can be seen trying to calm someone down.<\/p>\n

Injured Shona and David Platt (Julia Goulding and Jack P Shepherd) are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), whilst Corrie\u2019s own trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) shares the screen with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) as she tries to help more casualties.<\/p>\n

Both shows have pregnant women caught up in the drama, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) can be seen trying to help a screaming Shona in a scene in Hotton General Hospital.<\/p>\n

And as the trailer draws to a close Kevin and Abi Webster (Michael Le Vell and Sally Carman-Duttine) search for Debbie at the crash site, while a desperate Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) screams out for Aaron in the darkness alongside Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).<\/p>\n

In a change to how things usually run, the hour-long Corriedale episode will not be dropped earlier in the day on ITVX. Half hour episodes of each soap will be shown earlier, Emmerdale 7pm and Coronation Street 7.30pm, these two episodes will drop on ITVX at 7am that morning.<\/p>\n

The special episode is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV\u2019s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale, with both soaps airing every week night for half an hour each.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in an extra treat for the viewers, the producers of both programmes are inviting the audience to choose which two characters, one from each soap, they would like to see meet and interact in a scene.<\/p>\n
