A leaker has claimed the multiplayer in next year\u2019s Call Of Duty<\/a> is a \u2018copy\u2019 of a prior entry, as a former veteran reflects on the current state of Activision<\/a>.<\/p>\n Between lower than expected sales<\/a> and increased competition from Battlefield 6<\/a>, Call Of Duty\u2019s future has never looked more shaky than after Black Ops 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n As such, there\u2019s more pressure on next year\u2019s entry to restore the series\u2019 position as the world\u2019s biggest shooter. Based on leaks so far<\/a>, all we know is that Call Of Duty 2026 will be a sequel to Modern Warfare 3<\/a> from Infinity Ward, with South Korea and North Korea<\/a> rumoured to play a significant role in the campaign.<\/p>\n A new leak, however, suggests the multiplayer portion of the next Call Of Duty will be a repeat of what we\u2019ve seen before \u2013 specifically 2022\u2019s Modern Warfare 2<\/a> reboot.<\/p>\n According to prominent Call Of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope, the multiplayer in Modern Warfare 4 \u2018in its current state\u2019 is a \u2018complete copy of Modern Warfare 2 except for no perk charging system and less [aim down sights]\/slide penalties\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n In a separate post on X<\/a>, he added: \u2018There is A TON of visual recoil on weapons in Modern Warfare 4, just like Modern Warfare 2. Like I said in my last tweet it\u2019s pretty much a complete copy outside of a few little things.\u2019<\/p>\n This suggests the next instalment will abandon the omnimovement mechanics introduced in last year\u2019s Black Ops 6<\/a>, which were further expanded in Black Ops 7. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer in its current state is currently a complete copy of Modern Warfare II except for no perk charging system and less ADS\/slide penalties\u2026 https:\/\/t.co\/XWQtp5QLLV<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Hope (@TheGhostOfHope) December 14, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n It\u2019s worth noting that the multiplayer could evolve from this alleged current state, before it launches next year, but it isn\u2019t exactly an enticing prospect for Call Of Duty\u2019s next swing.<\/p>\n The rumours follow comments from Glen Schofield, a co-founder of Call Of Duty studio Sledgehammer Games, posted on LinkedIn<\/a> about the current state of Activision and EA<\/a>, following their respective acquisitions<\/a>, which according to him has seen them \u2018fade from their roles as dominant publishers\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018When the news broke that Electronic Arts was being bought and likely scaled down, my mind immediately went to Activision and their acquisition by Microsoft<\/a>. In the span of just a few years, the two publishing giants who shaped the last 20+ years of our industry have both entered new eras,\u2019 Schofield wrote.<\/p>\n \u2018For me, it\u2019s a bittersweet moment. I spent roughly a decade at each company, right in their primes. Watching them fade from their roles as dominant publishers and powerhouse training grounds hits harder than I expected.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t Schofield went onto describe his time at both EA and Activision, calling the latter a \u2018storm of A-type personalities, but in the best way\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018They had Call of Duty experts who showed me the ropes and then tossed me straight into the fire,\u2019 he added. \u2018I loved my time there. Modern Warfare 3 was unlike anything I\u2019d ever experienced, and Activision\u2019s marketing team\u2026 they were on another planet. Their ideas and execution set a standard most companies still chase today.<\/p>\n \u2018So yes it\u2019s tough to watch these companies step back from what they once were: major publishers, major developers, and incredible places to grow, learn, and sharpen your craft. They trained generations of us. They made careers. Mine included.<\/p>\n \u2018But there\u2019s a bright side: it\u2019s time for others to step up. New leaders. New studios. New publishers. Someone will take that mantle, we always do as an industry. And when they do, I hope they lead, teach, and invest in talent the way EA and Activision did. They set a bar that pushed all of us to be better.<\/p>\n \u2018They\u2019re both still around, and I sincerely wish them success in whatever comes next.\u2019<\/p>\n Along with 2011\u2019s Modern Warfare 3, Schofield worked as a co-director on Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare<\/a> and 2017\u2019s WW2<\/a>. During his stint at EA, he produced Dead Space<\/a> and the 2005 James Bond<\/a> game From Russia With Love, amongst others.<\/p>\n His latest game was 2022\u2019s The Callisto Protocol<\/a> under Krafton, which failed to meet sales expectations.
