Yungblud<\/a> has spoken out about the criticism he received from The Darkness<\/a> about his tribute to Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The British singer, real name Dominic Harrison, teamed up with Aerosmith\u2019s<\/a> Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and Extreme\u2019s Nuno Bettencourt to honour the late Prince Of Darkness at the 2025 VMAs in New York on September 7<\/a>. While it drew an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd, including Ariana Grande<\/a>, The Darkness\u2019 Dan and Justin Hawkins<\/a> did not appreciate the performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother nail in the coffin of rock n roll,\u201d Dan wrote in Instagram, using pictures of Yungblud and Grande.<\/a> \u201cCynical, nauseating and more importantly; shit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Hawkins would justify his brother\u2019s comments on YouTube<\/a>, describing Yunglud\u2019s performance as \u201cposturing\u201d and arguing that he \u201cseems to have positioned himself as a natural heir to the Ozzy legacy, having nothing to do with the really important stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s comments drew backlash online, to which Justin Hawkins claimed he \u201cintended to incite a feud\u201d, and that \u201cit\u2019s OK to be a bit sceptical\u201d<\/a>. Yungblud had previously hit back at the comments, describing them as \u201cbitter\u201d and \u201cjealous\u201d during a conversation with Osbourne\u2019s son Jack.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In an interview with Billboard<\/a> published on Monday (December 15), he would add further thoughts on the situation. \u201cThe criticism at the VMAs<\/a> was coming from people that were trying to be doormen at a party that they weren\u2019t invited to,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s the harsh reality of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He would describe the criticism as being part of the nature of making an impact as an artist. \u201cIf you don\u2019t have that fear that you need to prove something, you\u2019re not on the right path and journey\u201d he explained. \u201cIf people are indifferent about you, then you\u2019re not truly anything at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, he discussed being nominated for a Grammy for his cover of \u2018Changes\u2019 at Black Sabbath\u2019s Back To The Beginning concert in July,<\/a> as well as its enduring popularity. \u201cIt\u2019s the greatest honour you can have as a singer,\u201d he said. \u201cI dreamed of knowing Ozzy my whole life. I met him, got to know him, his family asked me to honour him, and then I lost him. The fact that [Ozzy] was the one that made the world take notice [of me]\u2026 it\u2019s just so crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recently, Yungblud revealed that Robbie Williams wrote him a profound letter at a moment \u201cwhen it really needed to come\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n

Dan Hawkins also spoke to NME recently<\/a> about the legacy of their hit 2003 Christmas song, their resurgence as an arena act, and how they feel like they are \u201cone of the last proper rock \u2019n\u2019 roll bands\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe snuck in there as a rock \u2019n\u2019 roll band,\u201d he told us. \u201cWe might be the last men standing at this rate, because the genre has sort of evaporated. One thing I was always really sad about was that there weren\u2019t more rock bands that followed us through that. We\u2019ve managed to cling on like a bad smell.
