Following the passing of The Stone Roses bassist Gary \u2018Mani<\/a>\u2018 Mounfield in November, his cause of death has now been confirmed.<\/p>\n The Manchester musical icon, who also played in Primal Scream for many years, died at his home in Heaton Moor, Greater Manchester, on November 20th. He was 63.<\/p>\n The Manchester Evening News<\/a> has now confirmed from Mounfield\u2019s family that he died peacefully in his sleep due to respiratory issues that the long-standing lung condition, emphysema, had caused.<\/p>\n According to the same publication, Mounfield was not taken to the hospital due to being pronounced dead at the scene. Police are also not believed to have attended his home, as it was categorised as a non-suspicious death.<\/p>\n An invite-only memorial service<\/a> is set to be held at Manchester Cathedral on December 22nd, which would be followed by a private committal service.<\/p>\n His brother, Greg, recently said on Facebook that his brother \u201cpassed away peacefully at his home in Heaton Moor\u201d on November 20th, and described him as a \u201cbeloved husband to the late Imelda [and] the much loved father to George, Gene and Joe\u201d, as well as \u201ca loved son-in-law, nephew, cousin and good friend to man\u201d.<\/p>\n Mounfield is survived by two children that he shared with his wife,\u00a0Imelda<\/a>, who tragically died in 2023 due to bowel cancer.<\/p>\n
