Mariah Carey<\/a> has responded to \u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019 breaking the record for the longest-running Number One single in the US.<\/p>\n

Last week saw the pop star\u2019s 1994 festive hit achieve a record-breaking 20th week at the top spot on the Billboard<\/a> Hot 100 \u2013 31 years after its initial release.<\/p>\n

The track surpassed the joint Number One runs of two hits: Shaboozey<\/a>\u2019s \u2018A Bar Song (Tipsy)\u2019 in 2024, and Lil Nas X<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Old Town Road\u2019 (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus<\/a>) in 2019.<\/p>\n

Over six years ago, the latter song became the longest-running US Number One single of all time. \u2018A Bar Song (Tipsy)\u2019 then tied with \u2018Old Town Road\u2019, with 19 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Hot 100.<\/p>\n

When Billboard<\/a> asked Carey how she felt about smashing the record, she replied: \u201cIt\u2019s amazing. Honestly, it really is. I can\u2019t lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer\u2019s 1995 single \u2018One Sweet Day\u2019 with Boys II Men<\/a> previously enjoyed a stint as the Hot 100\u2019s longest-running Number One single, earning 16 weeks at the top spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was robbed of me,\u201d she told the publication of Lil Nas X taking her crown. \u201cI was upset. But what are you gonna do?\u201d<\/p>\n

The 16-week mark has since been matched by Luis Fonsi<\/a>, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Despacito\u2019, and Morgan Wallen<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Last Night\u2019. Harry Styles<\/a>, meanwhile, achieved 15 weeks with \u2018As It Was\u2019.<\/p>\n

Carey went on to say she \u201chad no idea\u201d that \u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019 would be the track to get her the title back: \u201cThat just became such a thing that I never could have predicted it ever, so\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked how high the single could reach beyond its current 20 weeks, the star said: \u201cI don\u2019t know [\u2026] At a certain point it\u2019s not Christmas anymore, and you know, well, but I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carey concluded by saying she would be enjoying the festive period with her recent \u2018Christmastime In Las Vegas\u2019 residency, which wrapped up last weekend. \u201cSo we\u2019re doing this every night, but really I just want to be celebrating it,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Sharing a post on Instagram, the artist told her followers that she was \u201chumbly taking back the torch\u201d by breaking the record once again. \u201c20 weeks at #1. I\u2019m so grateful \u2764\ufe0f,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

This time last year, Carey celebrated the 30th anniversary of her Christmas classic with a series of special releases<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019 finally topped the US<\/a> and UK charts<\/a> in 2019 and 2020, respectively, two-and-a-half decades after its original release.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME in 2021<\/a>, Carey reflected on making the snowy video for the single. \u201cWell, I remember certain things that weren\u2019t great about that time, but I also see my true happiness shining through,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone smarter than myself suggested I do a Christmas album as a young, young girl and I was like: \u2018Hmmm \u2013 doesn\u2019t that happen later in life?\u2019 And then I said, \u2018But you know what?
