Clad in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/pink\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pink<\/a> mirrored panels and precisely calibrated to complete a full rotation every two minutes, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/interactive-installation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">work<\/a> takes a familiar fairground structure and transforms it into an immersive sculptural environment that folds time, movement, and spectatorship into a disorienting experience set against the Engadin landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Installed outdoors on the hotel\u2019s ice rink, Pink Mirror Carousel continues H\u00f6ller\u2019s long-standing engagement with amusement rides as what he calls \u2018confusion machines.\u2019 Rather than delivering speed or thrill, the carousel deliberately slows the body down. Its rotation becomes almost meditative, encouraging riders to register duration, repetition, and anticipation as material conditions. This double minute references the carousel\u2019s counter-rotating elements, with the top turning counter-clockwise and the middle section rotating clockwise. The result is a subtle but persistent sense of misalignment, where mechanical precision and bodily perception never fully sync. As Baldo Hauser, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/carsten.holler\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Belgian artist\u2019s<\/a> alter ego, notes, the work functions as \u2018a sculpture with people inside, animating the inanimate, the mechanical, the lifeless rotation with the realness of human bodies being transported through their own biological time.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Music curated by the Kulm Hotel\u2019s directeur d\u2019ambiance, Arman Naf\u00e9ei, accompanies the skating rink, layering sound into the experience.
