Wunderhorse<\/a>, English Teacher<\/a>, Katy J Pearson<\/a>, Lambrini Girls<\/a> and more will feature on a new Opus Kink<\/a> compilation album to raise money for the Music Venue Trust.<\/p>\n

Post-punk sextet Opus Kink have arranged \u2018A Hideous Collection\u2019 \u2013 a compilation of 24 tracks to support the Music Venue Trust and the UK Touring Artists Fund.<\/p>\n

The album will drop on CD and vinyl from September 5, via the band\u2019s label Hideous Mink Records. It also comes in collaboration with SO Recordings \u2013 pre-order yours here<\/a>. Today (July 29), Opus Kink have shared the first single from the compilation \u2013 their own track called \u2018Thank You Satan\u2019, which you can watch down below.<\/p>\n

Along with a foreword from BBC 6 Music DJ Steve Lamacq, Big Special<\/a>, Katy J Pearson<\/a>, Lambrini Girls<\/a>,\u00a0English Teacher<\/a>, Mary In The Junkyard<\/a>, Wunderhorse<\/a>, Honeyglaze<\/a>, Luvcat<\/a>, Matt Maltese<\/a>, Warmduscher<\/a>, TTSSFU, Hamish Hawk<\/a>, Antony Szmierek<\/a>, Friedberg, HotWax<\/a>, Getdown Services, Gurriers<\/a>, Nova Twins<\/a>, cumgirl8<\/a>, The Oozes, Los Bitchos<\/a> and the Oracle Sisters will feature on the record.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, Opus Kink said of the compilation: \u201cTouring independent music venues is like this. The most passionate organisers are the ones who do it on a shoestring and are often one bad season away from crumbling.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupport for these venues and humans is starting to glimmer in the ashes through donations and awareness and the work of groups like MVT, but as always, unfortunately, it must also take wresting a more fundamental and top \u2013 down offering from the industry to really stay the decimation of grassroots live music culture in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a report from the beginning of this year, the\u00a0Music Venue Trust shared that the UK was losing one grassroots music venue every fortnight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the Trust shared their findings at the Houses of Parliament in January, patron\u00a0Kate Nash<\/a>\u00a0also said that many artists could simply not afford to tour \u2013 something she described as \u201ca fucking disgrace\u201d.<\/p>\n

Combined with\u00a0grassroots venues having closed at a \u201cdisastrous rate<\/a>\u201d, a\u00a0\u201ccomplete collapse of touring\u201d across the UK<\/a>\u00a0has been afflicting small venues across the country \u2013 with the Music Venue Trust demanding a \u201cfull, long overdue reform\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Wolf Alice<\/a>\u2018s Joff Oddie has warned that not enough progress was being made<\/a> in saving venues and new artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things we risk is that music becomes a middle and upper class sport\u201d, he said at a government hearing on the state of grassroots venues. \u201cWe\u2019re already seeing that representation decline. There are all kinds of statistics showing that\u2019s gone down of the last 15-20 years \u2013 especially for people outside the south east of England.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s costly to build a career, and the build a career you need to go on the road,\u201d he continued. \u201cOnce you get past a point, there is money to be made in the industry. Music is big business, but if we don\u2019t fund that from the beginning then we aren\u2019t going to get big artists.<\/p>\n
