It\u2019s a strange day to announce something this huge, but here we are. According to Deadline<\/a>, James Gunn wants German actor Lars Eidinger to play Brainiac<\/a> in his next Superman film, Man of Tomorrow. Gunn shared Eidinger\u2019s casting via Instagram, saying, \u201cIn our worldwide search for Brainiac in\u00a0Man of Tomorrow,\u00a0Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars.\u201d<\/p>\n

Superman and Luthor will be forced into a temporary alliance to deal with Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow. In the comics, Brainiac is a hyper-intelligent supervillain obsessed with collecting all knowledge in the known universe. When Brainiac enters Man of Tomorrow, it would mark the villain\u2019s first appearance in a live-action\u00a0Superman\u00a0movie, and it\u2019s certainly been a long time coming. Since the release of the very first\u00a0Superman\u00a0movie in 1978, we\u2019ve had four Luthors, two Zods, and even a Doomsday, but no Brainiac. It\u2019s time. Of course, there could easily be other villains in the movie as well.<\/p>\n

James Gunn shares Man of Tomorrow story details<\/p>\n

While speaking on the Howard Stern Show\u00a0earlier this year<\/a>, Gunn dropped a few story details. \u201cIt\u2019s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s more complicated than that but. It\u2019s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.\u201d Gunn may have even hinted at Brainiac\u2019s involvement with the\u00a0reveal of the script\u2019s title page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next from the DCU?<\/p>\n

The next DCU<\/a> project to be released in theaters will be\u00a0Supergirl<\/a>, which stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, alongside Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as\u00a0Ruthye<\/a>, Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) as\u00a0Krem of the Yellow Hill<\/a>, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) as\u00a0Zor-El<\/a>, Emily Beecham (1899) as\u00a0Alura<\/a>, and Jason Momoa as\u00a0Lobo<\/a>, a role he has longed to play for years. The film will hit theaters on\u00a0June 26, 2026.<\/p>\n
