Families<\/a> have walked out of a star-studded pantomime featuring Catherine Tate, Nigel Havers and Julian Clary<\/a> after being shocked by its crude humour.<\/p>\n

Ticket holders who paid up to \u00a3220 to see Sleeping Beauty<\/a> at London<\/a>‘s Palladium Theatre<\/a> have slammed the production on review sites, with some branding it a “smut fest” unsuitable for children.<\/p>\n

Theatre<\/a> bosses have now added a disclaimer to their website warning parents to use “discretion” over the panto’s innuendo-laden content.<\/p>\n

The show, which runs at family-friendly times of 2.30pm and 7.30pm, features The Catherine Tate Show star as the villainous Carabosse alongside Coronation Street actor Nigel Havers, Celebrity Big Brother winner Julian Clary<\/a> and America’s Got Talent champion Paul Zerdin.<\/p>\n

The controversial show is currently being staged at the iconic London Palladium (Flickr)<\/p>\n

It has become the fastest-selling pantomime ever staged at the London<\/a> Palladium.<\/p>\n

But angry punters have taken to TripAdvisor to vent their frustration, with one family revealing they left early because of the adult nature of the gags.<\/p>\n

Paul G wrote: “Another dreadful Panto this year, or should I say weak variety show.<\/p>\n

“Having seen several over the past 10 years, it really does begin to appear that the more \u00a3\u00a3\u00a3 they make, the worse it gets.<\/p>\n

“It’s embarrassing how much \u00a3\u00a3\u00a3 is spent on so little story, talent and innuendo.<\/p>\n

“Nothing clever about it anymore, and their attitude of it doesn’t matter because the audience will be drunk and the no plot gag, is just tedious and rather insulting to the thousands who save up all year, to attend.<\/p>\n

“The audience reaction this week was clearly muted, and no standing ovation at the end.<\/p>\n

“If I were a creative on the show, especially costume, I’d be furious, as some ensemble costumes (expensive ones) are only seen for seconds.<\/p>\n

“The repeated use of same ‘acts’ and actors is also tedious, especially when they don’t have new material.”<\/p>\n

Coronation Street star Nigel Havers also appears in the panto as the Keeper of the Privy (.)<\/p>\n

Nuala G echoed his complaints, writing: “I’ll start with the positives \u2013 fabulous set, wonderful costumes, spot on ensemble and magnificent special effects.<\/p>\n

“Sadly I didn’t realise this was an ‘adult style’ panto. My friend and I felt cheated out of a traditional panto, which we were really looking forward to. Unfortunately it was pretty much a ‘smut fest’.<\/p>\n

“Very disappointing. Won’t be going again. Please don’t bring your children to this.”<\/p>\n

Lia T said she took her daughter expecting a family show after it was advertised as suitable for ages four and up.<\/p>\n

“I felt that much of the humour was not appropriate for young children,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“Some of the jokes relied on adult-themed references, which made my daughter uncomfortable, and we decided to leave early.<\/p>\n

“If the show intends to include mature humour, it would be helpful for the age guidance to reflect that more accurately so families<\/a> can make an informed choice.”<\/p>\n

PazA added: “Went to the Palladium to see Sleeping Beauty<\/a>, having been an avid Palladium Panto-visiter for many years.<\/p>\n

“Sadly, this will be the last time.”<\/p>\n

However, other audience members praised the production’s lavish sets and costumes.<\/p>\n

One wrote: “Panto fun with amazing views. This is a great place the views are good even in the cheap seats the bars are pricey but that’s the weather end the staff helpful.”<\/p>\n

Another said: “Went to watch sleeping beauty panto, absolutely brilliant. Lovely theatre and staff were great.”<\/p>\n

A third wrote on X: “It was fabulous. Great start to the festive season. Amazing cast. Many thanks for a great evening.”<\/p>\n

A fourth tweeted: “Was there on Wednesday, incredible show!”<\/p>\n

Theatre bosses have now added a warning telling would-be audience members: “Parental discretion advised due to innuendo.”<\/p>\n

Sleeping Beauty runs at the London Palladium until January 11, with ticket prices ranging from \u00a335 to \u00a3220.<\/p>\n
