No.\u201d<\/p>\n

Broad explained that his assessment before the series was based on how the contest could swing. \u201cI did say Australia would have to play very badly [to lose the Ashes] and England would have to play very well,\u201d he said.That, according to Broad, never happened. \u201cAustralia haven\u2019t played very badly and England haven\u2019t played very well,\u201d he added. While admitting Australia were always favourites at home, Broad said the margin of dominance surprised him. \u201cI had Australia down as favourites, but I didn\u2019t have them down as 3\u20130 favourites.\u201dBroad also pointed to the fact that England had chances going into the series, especially with Australia missing key players. \u201cThere are a lot of things that have gone England\u2019s way,\u201d he said, referring to Pat Cummins<\/a> missing the first two Tests, Josh Hazlewood<\/a> being ruled out of the series so far through injury, and Steve Smith missing the Adelaide Test.Despite that, Broad felt England simply fell short. \u201cEngland haven\u2019t been good enough ultimately,\u201d he said, while praising Australia\u2019s approach. \u201cAustralia have been relentless in what they\u2019ve done. They\u2019ve showed age is just a number.\u201dAddressing comparisons with past Australian teams, Broad stood by his view that this side does not match the standards of earlier eras. \u201cDo I think the side of 2013\u201314 man for man was a better side? Yes, probably still,\u201d he said, referring to the Michael Clarke-led team that dismantled England with Mitchell Johnson\u2019s fearsome spells.Broad went further, adding, \u201cI don\u2019t think individually they are better than any other team since 2010\u201311, but they\u2019ve been relentless in the pressure they\u2019ve managed to put on England, as have every Australian team since 2010.\u201dHe also dismissed suggestions that England\u2019s position was unprecedented. \u201cEngland losing 3\u20130 by the third Test is not something new,\u201d Broad said. \u201cI don\u2019t disagree with my comment.
