Interior design experts has been weighing in on the home decor choices that are ‘tasteless’ – after a TikTok<\/a> content creator caused a firestorm online.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0video<\/a>, which has so far racked up over 17 million views, user Ellie Barker decided to start the conversation about certain design decisions.<\/p>\n

‘What’s a home decor choice that screams, “I don’t have taste?”‘ Barker asked her audience.<\/p>\n

In the comments section, tons of people weighed in with their own opinions of what they found to be tacky.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Beach decor when the house isn’t at the beach,’ one person wrote.<\/p>\n

Someone else typed, ‘Empty liquor bottles as decor.’<\/p>\n

‘Crushed velvet, I’m sorry but it gives me a headache looking at it,’ another person chimed in.<\/p>\n

A user seconded, ‘Hanging pictures so high they almost touch the ceiling.’<\/p>\n

Some users even shared gripes about having crushed velvet furniture in the home (stock image)<\/p>\n

‘Any wall sticker, I’m sorry,’ another shared.<\/p>\n

Others even posted photos to describe their gripes, which included artwork with designer brands drawn on it, like Chanel, or signs that read, ‘Live, laugh, love.’<\/p>\n

And while many people may have their own views on what is ‘tasteful’ or not, an interior decorator has now weighed in on the matter, settling the debate.<\/p>\n

Jared Hughes<\/a>,\u00a0of Jared Hughes Design, revealed to Daily Mail a few of his least favorite decor items.<\/p>\n

‘We have to start by saying that the definition of “taste” can be different for everyone,’ he prefaced.<\/p>\n

‘What I may find tasteful might not be what most everyone else would agree is tasteful,’ he continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘For instance, when I see one of the “H” Hermes blankets thrown on top of a beautiful primary bed this screams “no taste.”‘<\/p>\n

Hughes also admitted that he finds matching furniture sets and ‘excessive amounts’ of overhead lighting to be off-putting, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The interior decorator also gave his insight into home decor trends, as he revealed some of the items he believes are no longer ‘in.’<\/p>\n

This included having an ‘overuse of technology in the home,’ as well as the cloud sofa and its knockoffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hughes also mentioned decorating with Pampas grass and dried florals as trends that seems to be past its prime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘The goal is to make the space feel lively, dead flowers don’t do that,’ Hughes told Daily Mail.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But all hope is not lost for your home decor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the bright side, there is one thing that Hughes believes everyone should have in their home – and that’s a piece of original art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘It can be an antique piece like an oil landscape you love or an example of architecture in print, maybe from somewhere you have visited,’ Hughes said.<\/p>\n

‘It could also be a modern piece and you’re really attracted to the color or the feeling it gives you,’ he said.<\/p>\n

‘Just do not buy generic, fake art,’ Hughes warned.<\/p>\n
