Cristian Romero has been charged by the Football Association following his dismissal in Liverpool\u2019s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The Spurs captain was shown a second yellow card after kicking out at Ibrahima Konate in second half stoppage-time.<\/p>\n
However, the FA charge is in relation to his conduct after being shown the red card, with the Argentina international finding himself charged for allegedly failing to leave the pitch promptly and behaving improperly towards referee John Brooks.<\/p>\n
A statement shared by the official spokesperson for The FA reads: “Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has been charged following their Premier League<\/a> match against Liverpool<\/a> on Saturday 20 December.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Antoine Semenyo disagreement emerges after statement issued on Liverpool transfer target<\/a>READ MORE: Micky van de Ven reveals Alexander Isak response after messaging injured Liverpool striker<\/a><\/p>\n “It’s alleged that he acted in an improper manner by failing to promptly leave the field of play and\/or behaving in a confrontational and\/or aggressive manner towards the match referee after being sent off in the 93rd minute. Cristian Romero has until Friday 2 January 2026 to respond.”<\/p>\n Romero is already set to serve a one-game suspension as a result of his dismissal, and will at least miss Tottenham’s match against Crystal Palace on December 28.<\/p>\n Spurs boss Thomas Frank took issue with Romero\u2019s sending off, suggesting it was the wrong decision following Liverpool\u2019s win over Spurs.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe second red we got on the wrong end too,\u201d said Frank. \u201cThere\u2019s probably a reason why the whole team reacts as they do.<\/p>\n “Normally, if it’s one player reacting, if it’s the whole team, probably because there’s something about it. I think we all played football enough and seen enough football that there’s something probably around that.<\/p>\n “So, I can’t see if it’s right or wrong that he gives the first yellow. The second yellow, I see two big boys competing; Konate<\/a> absolutely smashing through Cuti [Romero]. It’s a foul, I’m not saying more.<\/p>\n “His foot landed on Cuti’s head. Not a yellow, I’m not saying that. Cuti makes a reaction.
