Britain is at risk of becoming an \u201ceconomic colony\u201d under Labour, financial expert Justin Urquhart Stewart has warned.<\/p>\n

Speaking to GB News, Mr Urquhart Stewart described the Government\u2019s approach as \u201camateur\u201d and said ministers lack the knowledge to properly grow the economy.<\/p>\n

Mr Urquhart Stewart highlighted how poorly planned budgets and rising taxes are eroding investor confidence across the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cCreating wealth and encouraging investment isn\u2019t rocket science,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cYet Labour seems to be ignoring the simple levers that could secure Britain\u2019s financial independence.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expert warned that foreign takeovers of British companies have surged in the last year, with deals now worth $142billion (\u00a3115billion).<\/p>\n

\u201cDo we want to see our key industries owned by overseas investors?\u201d he asked. “That\u2019s the path we\u2019re heading down.\u201d<\/p>\n

“The Treasury and the Government don\u2019t actually understand how to grow the economy by supporting businesses and helping them reach the next stage.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s almost as if they assume companies will thrive on their own.<\/p>\n

“No they need guidance, nurturing, and a taxation system that encourages investment and development, both domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n

“If companies are coming in and money is available, the basic bricks are already there.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, the people applying the cement, our policymakers, are lacking in economic expertise and don\u2019t know how to properly put those bricks together.<\/p>\n

“This lack of knowledge and understanding creates an attitude where everyone else is seen as an enemy.<\/p>\n

“Instead of asking, \u201cHow can we help solve this?\u201d the focus is on opposition and blame.<\/p>\n

“This isn\u2019t just about party politics, it\u2019s about ensuring the economy functions effectively for everyone.” <\/p>\n

GB News Originals host Nicholas Dunning asked: “This is really getting out of the key element of the logic of running an economy for the benefit of everybody, every citizen in this country. <\/p>\n

“I don’t want to be alarmist, but do we do we not risk becoming an economic colony if this continues?”<\/p>\n

“Years ago, I was selling England by the pound, and that\u2019s exactly how it feels when you look around our businesses today. <\/p>\n

“Many are no longer owned by people in the UK, they\u2019re owned by foreign investors. <\/p>\n

“There\u2019s nothing inherently wrong with that, but take Canadian pension funds, for example. <\/p>\n

“They have a strong track record for long-term investing, yet the benefits go to those investors, not the UK.<\/p>\n

“Why can\u2019t we be doing the same here? Again, it comes back to the fact that pension trustees aren\u2019t being guided on how best to use that money. <\/p>\n

“It\u2019s not just pensioners, it\u2019s investors and the wider public who need a better understanding of how economics can work for everyone. <\/p>\n
