James Cameron, the director of Aliens, has never been one to shy away from sharing his opinions about the films in the franchise. In a recent podcast interview with Michael Biehn, who played Dwayne Hicks in the second film of the franchise, amongst the discussion of their shared history and films they worked on together, Cameron had a few words to say about the Alien franchise.<\/p>\n

Biehn asked what he thought about Alien 3 killing off Newt, and as we\u2019ve reported on before<\/a>, Cameron still hates the idea with a passion but doesn\u2019t blame David Fincher for it and echoes great respect for Fincher\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

Cameron continues by adding of his own accord:<\/p>\n

The new Alien: Earth is pretty good and they\u2019ve got a lot of the DNA from Ridley\u2019s film, from ours, and also from Fincher\u2019s, as well with some of those aggressive POVs.<\/p>\n

Though when questioned about if he liked Alien: Romulus, the tone was slightly different:<\/p>\n

I liked parts of it. I think it\u2019s inventive, it\u2019s different.<\/p>\n

When Biehn suggested that Blomkamp\u2019s Alien 5 was stopped by Ridley Scott, Cameron explained that he doesn\u2019t know the details about that at all, but does add his opinions on the director:<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a very inventive guy. He probably would\u2019ve done something interesting.<\/p>\n

Further, he mentions what he particularly liked from Alien: Romulus as well:<\/p>\n

And Fede did something interesting as well. I particularly like the scene where they\u2019re weightless, floating in-between the globs of floating Alien acid, which is pretty nightmarish and well done.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Right after that comment, Cameron openly admitted his thoughts on the franchise:<\/p>\n

You couldn\u2019t pay me enough money to go back to that franchise. It\u2019s sort of, almost become fan driven.<\/p>\n

From previous interviews we\u2019ve reported<\/a> on, we already knew he didn\u2019t have a desire to return since he already has a full alien world of his own to focus on, regarding the Avatar films. When Alien: Covenant released, he was also unsure<\/a> where else the franchise could go.<\/p>\n

Later, when asked by Biehn about Cameron\u2019s experience during the shooting of Aliens, he reiterates how tense the whole shooting was because of disagreements with the local filming crew, which is well documented by now. Lastly regarding the franchise, he states that the filming only went around 8% to 10% over budget, unlike Titanic which went over budget by 75%.
