For a decade complete, \u2018O Holy Night\u2019 has been voted the best-loved Christmas carol of all time in our annual poll.<\/p>\n

\u2018O Holy Night<\/a>\u2019, a carol of French origin that has been recorded by countless singers from Luciano Pavarotti to Mariah Carey, has been voted the greatest Christmas carol of all time for the tenth consecutive year!<\/p>\n

The annual vote for The Nation\u2019s Favourite Carol<\/a> took place over three weeks, and the Top 30 list was revealed on Classic FM on Christmas Day from 1-3pm by Alexander Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Composed in 1847 by Adolphe Adam, \u2018O Holy Night\u2019 is still adored the world over, 170 years on. A tale of humanity\u2019s redemption, the \u2018Cantique de No\u00ebl\u2019 is a much-loved favourite in our annual countdown, and is thought to have been the first carol played on the radio.<\/p>\n

Gustav Holst\u2019s setting of \u2018In the Bleak Midwinter<\/a>\u2019, originally a poem by Christina Rossetti, was voted the nation\u2019s second favourite, with \u2018Carol of the Bells\u2019 in third place followed by \u2018Silent Night\u2019 and Harold Darke\u2019s setting of Rossetti\u2019s poem.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in our chart, \u2018It Came Upon a Midnight Clear\u2019 climbed four places from No.14 to No.10. \u2018Angels from the Realms of Glory\u2019 and \u2018Ding Dong! Merrily on High\u2019 were two new entries in the chart.<\/p>\n
