{"id":339249,"date":"2025-12-28T12:49:20","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T12:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/339249\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T12:49:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T12:49:20","slug":"major-search-for-missing-person-at-sea-in-cornwall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/339249\/","title":{"rendered":"Major search for missing person at sea in Cornwall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A significant multi-agency search operation at a popular beach was suspended pending further enquiries after emergency teams were diverted to a second incident nearby<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/605752856_892728003312990_6702053302267063141_n.jpg\" alt=\"Search on the sea (Credit : Newquay coastguard search &amp; rescue team)\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Search on the sea (Credit : Newquay coastguard search &amp; rescue team)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A major air and sea rescue operation was launched after reports of a casualty in the water sparked a multi-agency emergency response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Multiple rescue teams were called into action during the evening following concerns for a person\u2019s safety, leading to a search of the coastline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The incident took place near the Great Western, where crews from the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cornwalllive.com\/all-about\/newquay\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Newquay<\/a> coastguard rescue team, Newquay RNLI lifeboats, and HM Coastguard <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cornwalllive.com\/all-about\/padstow\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Padstow<\/a> were deployed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">They were joined by the Newquay Coastguard rescue helicopter 924 and Devon &amp; Cornwall police to search the area. While the search at Great Western was ongoing, a second emergency was reported on Porth Island.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/605485769_892727989979658_7137575631598727825_n.jpg\" alt=\"Search on the sea (Credit : Newquay coastguard search &amp; rescue team)\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Search on the sea (Credit : Newquay coastguard search &amp; rescue team)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Half of the Newquay team was diverted to the second incident to assist the police with a casualty, while the remaining crew members stayed on scene at Great Western.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The St Agnes coastguard search and rescue team was also tasked to assist with the incident on the island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The first tasking was received at 5.08pm on Saturday, December 27. The second request for assistance followed at 7.15pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue posted on social media: &#8220;Once on scene all assets commenced a comprehensive search of the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;All assets tasked to Porth were stood down once this incident was resolved. The search at Great Western was eventually suspended pending further enquiries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The rescue service urged the public to remain vigilant when visiting the shore. A spokesperson added: &#8220;If you see someone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
