‘We toughened up sentences for rapists and stalkers, outlawed upskirting and revenge porn, and made violence against women and girls a national policing priority \u2013 but it is clear more needs to be done.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ms Harrison, 31, gave evidence against Stephen Bear, 35, at Chelmsford Crown Court, where he was jailed for 21 months for voyeurism and two counts of disclosing private sexual images without consent.<\/p>\n
Experts fear the number of cases could soar as culprits use so-called \u2018nudification\u2019 apps, which can edit an ordinary photograph of a person to make it appear that they are naked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Other powerful AI software can be used to insert a victim\u2019s face into sexually explicit pictures or videos \u2013 known as deep-fakes \u2013 such as the high-profile clips of pop star Taylor Swift that caused outrage last year.<\/p>\n
Such images and videos are used by thousands of perverts to harass and intimidate victims. A law change came into effect in January 2024 that should have made it easier to bring charges by lowering the bar for prosecution.<\/p>\n
But figures for that year show that just 254 of 7,912 cases ended with a person being charged.<\/p>\n
In 3,923 of the cases, detectives pinpointed a prime suspect but there were difficulties getting enough evidence.<\/p>\n
A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: \u2018Sharing intimate images without consent is a serious crime with devastating impacts \u2013 that\u2019s why we have introduced new guidance making it easier for our prosecutors to bring revenge porn offenders to justice.<\/p>\n
\u2018The number of charges we have brought for these vile offences has increased every year since 2020 and we will continue to work with police to deliver justice for victims.\u2019<\/p>\n
