{"id":33934,"date":"2025-07-30T17:29:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T17:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/33934\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T17:29:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T17:29:15","slug":"uk-flights-disrupted-after-air-traffic-control-technical-issue-aviation-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/33934\/","title":{"rendered":"UK flights disrupted after air traffic control \u2018technical issue\u2019 | Aviation News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">Air traffic control authority says departures at all airports have resumed after glitch affected flights across UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Flights across the United Kingdom have been disrupted as the country\u2019s air traffic control authority reported a technical issue, but later said the glitch had been resolved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The National Air Traffic Service, or NATS, said in a statement on Wednesday that departures at all airports have resumed and that teams are working with affected airlines and airports to \u201cclear the backlog safely\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur systems are fully operational and air traffic capacity is returning to normal,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The outage, announced by NATS 20, included Heathrow Airport, Britain\u2019s largest airport and Europe\u2019s busiest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFlights at Heathrow have resumed following a technical issue at the NATS Swanwick air traffic control centre. It was not clear exactly how long the outage had lasted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The NATS system has suffered several software-related failures since it opened in 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In August 2023, flights across Britain were disrupted after the automatic processing of flight plans malfunctioned. Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled at the height of the summer holidays and some 700,000 passengers affected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Britain\u2019s aviation regulator last year said NATS needed to review its contingency plans for outages after the outage, which airline bosses said cost them over 100m pounds ($133m) in refunds and compensation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Air traffic control authority says departures at all airports have resumed after glitch affected flights across UK.
