{"id":339363,"date":"2025-12-28T14:23:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T14:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/339363\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T14:23:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T14:23:22","slug":"new-york-to-require-social-media-platforms-to-display-mental-health-warnings-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/339363\/","title":{"rendered":"New York to require social media platforms to display mental health warnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Social media platforms with infinite scrolling, auto-play and algorithmic feeds will be required to display warning labels about their potential harm to young users\u2019 mental health under a new law, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Friday (Dec 26).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keeping New Yorkers safe has been my top priority since taking office, and that includes protecting \u200cour kids from the potential harms of social media \u200cfeatures that encourage excessive use,&#8221; Hochul said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>This month Australia<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/world\/australia-social-media-ban-children-under16s-school-holidays-5702676\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> imposed a social media ban for children under 16<\/a>. New York joins states like California and Minnesota that have similar social media laws.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The New York law includes platforms that offer &#8220;addictive feeds&#8221;, auto play or infinite scroll, according \u200dto the legislation.
