Former international Kevin Brown has weighed in on England\u2019s half-back selection for the upcoming Ashes series – omitting reigning Man of Steel and Hull KR<\/a> star Mikey Lewis from his starting duo.<\/p>\n The Rugby League<\/a> Ashes returns this autumn after a 22-year absence, with fixtures scheduled at Wembley, Everton\u2019s new ground and Leeds\u2019 Headingley Stadium.<\/p>\n England boss Shaun Wane faces some of the toughest selection decisions of his tenure, with the choice of starting half-backs currently one of the most hotly debated topics in the game.<\/p>\n Speaking on All Out Rugby League\u2019s Back Ten podcast<\/a>, alongside host Kyle Amor and All Out Rugby League’s<\/a> Matt Shaw, Brown shared his view on the current contenders: Harry Smith, Mikey Lewis, and England captain George Williams.<\/p>\n \u201cHarry Smith would be one of the first names on [the teamsheet],\u201d Brown said. \u201cHe\u2019s the one who needs to be at the side of, one of, George Williams or Mikey Lewis.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think Mikey Lewis and George Williams go together. I think when Harry is playing well, Bevan is playing well. The fact Bevan isn\u2019t playing at the minute, it exposes Harry\u2019s game, because he hasn\u2019t got that running ability that Bevan French has.<\/p>\n \u201cBut as a combination, I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any better than a George Williams and Harry Smith, or a Mikey Lewis and a Harry Smith. My problem would be getting all three in the team without actually weakening the side.\u201d<\/p>\n Pressed on his starting halves, the 10-time England international responded: \u201cHarry Smith and George Williams.<\/p>\n
