\n\tDavid Spade<\/a> and Eddie Murphy<\/a> have buried the hatchet over an infamous Saturday Night Live<\/a> joke, but it took more than a couple of decades.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpade said that he and his fellow SNL alum Murphy are \u201call good\u201d now after they reunited at last year\u2019s SNL50: The 50th Anniversary Special<\/a>, though it took \u201c25 years\u201d for him to win Murphy\u2019s favor after he made a joke on Saturday Night Live about Murphy\u2019s 1995 Vampire in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was weird going from being a super fan to having him hate me overnight, and to try to win him back for the last 25 years,\u201d Spade said during a recent episode of his Fly on the Wall <\/a>podcast<\/a> with Dana Carvey.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe had some bumps in the road along the way, early on. I was on Weekend Update on\u00a0SNL, new to the show, making fun of all the celebrities and I made fun of him and it didn\u2019t go well,\u201d Spade told Carvey. \u201cAnd he called me and we had it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpade added, \u201cActually,\u00a0he\u00a0had it out. I didn\u2019t really fight back. Because I did feel a little guilty about it. And he did make some sense, I just didn\u2019t like that because he was a hero.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was a long feud. Back in Dec. 9, 1995 during the Weekend Update segment, Spade was poking fun at several celebrities. He included Murphy and Vampire in Brooklyn, which had a poor box office draw. \u201cLook, children, it\u2019s a falling star. Make a wish! You make a Hollywood minute omelet, you break some eggs,\u201d he said of Murphy at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring Murphy\u2019s recent Netflix documentary, Being Eddie<\/a>, he said that he declined to return to SNL for years due to that joke. \u201cThe joke had went through all of those channels that the joke has to go through, and then he was on the air saying, \u2018Catch a falling star,\u2019\u201d Murphy said, per Variety<\/a>. \u201cSo I wasn\u2019t like, \u2018Fuck David Spade.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Oh, fuck SNL. Fuck y\u2019all. How y\u2019all going to do this shit? That\u2019s what y\u2019all think of me? Oh, you dirty motherfuckers.\u2019 I was like that. And that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t go back for years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMurphy did eventually return to host SNL in 2019, which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the Fly on the Wall podcast, Spade said that he and Murphy reunited at SNL50 and things are fine between them.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve seen him once or twice.
